Meta is taking a bold step into the AI frontier with its latest offering, “Movie Gen.” The tool, which is set to be available across Meta’s apps, allows users to generate high-definition videos using simple text prompts. Want to create a video of baby hippos playing, or perhaps depict yourself in an astronaut suit? With Movie Gen, you can, blending your real-world likeness into surreal, AI-generated environments.
As Meta continues to integrate AI into its platforms, Movie Gen isn’t just about creating videos from scratch. It can also manipulate your existing clips, adding fantasy elements to your personal footage. This ability to combine reality with AI-generated elements offers users a powerful way to enhance their content in a new, creative direction.
But while the technology itself is impressive, the broader question remains: will AI-generated content resonate with social media users?
The Allure – and Limitation – of AI-Generated Content

Novelty or Necessity?
Despite the excitement around Movie Gen, it’s unclear whether users are truly eager to flood their feeds with AI-generated videos. Social media is still fundamentally about sharing real-life moments with friends and followers. And while AI-driven creativity can augment that, there’s a risk that too much automation will make content feel less personal, detaching it from its social roots.
That said, there are practical applications for this technology, from enhancing branded content to spicing up personal posts with imaginative twists. The potential is vast, but as with any new tech, it’ll come down to whether users embrace these tools as integral to their online expression or merely as fleeting novelties.
