TikTok Introduces Flip Stories
TikTok continues to innovate with the release of its latest feature, Flip Story, offering users an exciting new way to engage their audiences.
October 1, 2024
Flip Stories allow users to add a second, hidden side to their stories, which users can unlock with a simple “flip.” This new format adds an element of surprise and interactivity, perfect for sharing exclusive content, before-and-after moments, or sneak peeks, elevating the storytelling experience for both users and viewers alike.
The introduction of Flip Stories reflects TikTok’s ongoing commitment to expanding its creative tools, giving users more flexibility and control over how they connect with their audience. With more than a billion monthly active users, TikTok has become a global hub for creative expression, and the platform continues to roll out features designed to enhance the connection between users and their fan communities.
How Flip Stories Work
Using Flip Story is simple. Users can tap the “+” button on the Create page or select it from their profile photo to access the Flip Story option. From there, they can upload two sides to their Story, either by snapping content directly from the app or uploading images from their device. It’s important to note that Flip Stories currently support image uploads only, not video.
To view a Flip Story, users must press and hold the “Hold to Flip” button, revealing the hidden second side for a few seconds before it disappears. This interactive feature encourages curiosity and engagement, with users able to track separate lists of viewers for both the initial and flipped content. As with all content on TikTok, Flip Stories will go through the same moderation process to ensure a safe and appropriate experience for users.
Billie Eilish’s Flip Story Debut
One of the first high-profile users to experiment with Flip Stories is none other than global superstar Billie Eilish. She surprised her fans with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at her HIT ME HARD AND SOFT tour, using Flip Story to reveal a before-and-after moment that created buzz across her fan base.
This isn’t the first time TikTok and Billie Eilish have collaborated. Earlier this year, TikTok partnered with the singer to launch a special in-app experience celebrating her album release, which featured the platform’s Fan Spotlight feature. Through this collaboration, Billie became the first artist to highlight fan videos at the top of her music tab, further enhancing her connection with her audience.
As part of her tour, TikTok is also launching a new in-app experience that includes weekly challenges, exclusive rewards, and special tour-themed profile frames, giving fans an additional layer of engagement. Billie’s innovative use of Flip Stories highlights the feature’s potential for artists and users to surprise and connect with their followers in more meaningful ways.
New Formats for Storytelling
With Flip Story, TikTok is once again pushing the boundaries of creative storytelling. This feature is not just about sharing content; it’s about adding a layer of interactivity and surprise that deepens the connection between users and their audiences. Whether it’s a big reveal, a special announcement, or an exclusive look behind the scenes, Flip Story offers a fresh way for users to share exciting moments.
TikTok’s dedication to innovation is evident in the continual rollout of features like Flip Stories, which cater to a diverse array of users, from influencers to brands and artists. As the platform evolves, so do the opportunities for users to connect, share, and engage with their communities.
In a world where content consumption can feel overwhelming, TikTok’s Flip Story adds a refreshing layer of fun, creativity, and surprise, making storytelling more dynamic and memorable for both users and their audiences. Whether you’re a casual user or a full-time user, Flip Stories provide a new format to explore and connect on TikTok.
